Environmental Responsibility
Colonial Chemicals Australia is proudly based on an 800-acre property in the New England region of New South Wales. Our family has cared for this land since 1971, when it was purchased by founder David Skewes’ father, Bert. Today, the property continues to operate as a working superfine Merino sheep farm alongside our purpose-built chemical manufacturing and distribution facilities.
Because our business operates from the same property our family calls home, environmental stewardship is more than a policy. It is a responsibility we take seriously. We are passionate about protecting the environment and continually improving our environmental performance through our certified Environmental Management System (EMS) compliant with ISO 14001. Our EMS provides a structured framework for managing environmental risks, meeting our compliance obligations, reducing waste, conserving resources, and driving continual improvement across every aspect of our operations.
This commitment is supported by practical initiatives across our business, including:
Renewable Energy
A large-scale solar power system supplies the majority of the electricity required across our manufacturing, warehousing, and office facilities, significantly reducing our reliance on grid power.
Responsible Water Management
Water is a valuable resource. We harvest rainwater from our buildings, utilise natural spring water where appropriate, and continually seek opportunities to recycle and reduce water consumption throughout our operations.
Packaging Recycling
Cardboard, plastics, pallets, and other packaging materials are recycled wherever possible, helping minimise waste sent to landfill.
Container Reconditioning
Suitable drums and IBCs are professionally refurbished and returned to service, extending their useful life and reducing unnecessary manufacturing waste.
Continuous Improvement
Environmental responsibility is an ongoing commitment. We regularly review our processes, infrastructure, and operational practices to improve efficiency, reduce our environmental footprint, and ensure we continue operating responsibly for future generations.
By combining responsible manufacturing with internationally recognised environmental management practices, Colonial Chemicals Australia is committed to protecting the natural environment while delivering reliable, high quality products and services to our customers.
